The Foundation for Children with Atypical HUS

Was thinking that we needed a place to put special requests for prayer for our little ones, ourselves, our outlooks, etc.

I know for me personally that it is so difficult to understand the how's and why's-- It is even difficult for me to pray about it alot of the time. I find that I'm unsure WHAT to ask God for, or go through stages where I am so angry I don't know how to pray at all.

With that being said, I still believe that God is ever-present, answers prayers and is still in the miracle-business!

Please feel free to post any prayer requests for you, your child or anything else that you have going on AHUS-related or not!

There is no one else that understands what we are going through like the other parents who are experiencing the same things. When we can't or don't know how to pray ourselves - there are others that can "stand in that gap" for us.

Thanks so much!

Special Prayer Request --

As mentioned in my previous discussion "Nephrectomy", it looks like we are facing some tough decisions this next week. Please lift Aiden up in prayer this week and me and David as well as we search for the best answer to help our baby boy. I am still believing that God can resolve these blood pressure issues. If, for reasons we don't understand (yet), that doesn't happen I am praying that God will give us the wisdom to make the right decision for Aiden and peace with that decision once it is reached.

Thanks so much---

Dear Christy, Cheryl, All,
We are praying and will continue to pray!
"Therefore, encourage each other and lift up each other." This sentiment on a refrigerator magnet I once received was inspired by Deuteronomy, perhaps 3:28. The magnet is long gone, but the wisdom is long lasting. Isaiah 41: 6, 7 and 13 also come to mind. For me, such thoughts and the combined efforts directed toward stopping this disease in its tracks are what this site is about. We can now put some faces to our prayers. Know that we are praying for you and the other aHUS families, for wisdom of doctors, for progress with ongoing research and that necessary funds/ needs will be supplied. We pray for as many happy moments as possible throughout! Prayer changes things! God Bless and Keep! Terry Craig (Linda Burke's sister), family, friends

Cheryl - thinking of you guys!!! It's always something isn't it? You are all in our thoughts and prayers!

Could everyone please remeber Nathan in your prayers today? His allergies always trigger something, and yesterday he woke up SOO puffy and coughing like a seal. In dialysis, the doc's took a strep test, since there is no fever and the rapid came back clear but his weight is way up. It's hard to tell if this is extra fluid from all the sinus discharge, (he's congested in his chest), or because he's eating. They've been having trouble pulling off enough weight since last week; his blood pressure drops drastically, (but since its always high this is never too alarming), but yesterday he was as low as 70/54. On hemo when they're getting you too dry this is one of the symptoms, also he has been severely cramping and dizzy. The cramping is worrying because his potassium is always on the low side and when it gets too low that's when he tends to seize. Anyway, I'm fearing pnuemonia...he has a history. He went to school today, so we're praying for the best.
Sending a hug along with the prayers for Nathan!

Christy,
Faith can move mountations.... It is said that God answers all prayers, even if the answer is "no". As I've struggled with the fears and challenges brought about by having both my sweet little boys deal with aHUS, it's been hard to understand the "no" answers as my plans and dreams were dashed. Although I've never seen it, there was an old black and white TV show called "Father Knows Best" - and I believe He does. There must be a Master Plan too great for me to envision - it's easy to get discouraged, though. People have been so kind to have lifted our family up in prayer - we do that now for your family. Aiden has brought many good people together, and I know they're all holding your whole family close in prayer. Bless you this week and always.

The following is the prayer I pray everyday (at least once) and it has helped me through many tough times and always brings me peace. Lord, I don't know or understand your plan for Paul, but I have faith that you do. Please give me the strength to see this journey through, the wisdom to make the right decisions, and the patience to wait for the time when I can understand why it was all necessary.
well said!

Cheryl,

You guys are in my thoughts and prayers. :)

Requesting prayers for Paul and all of us as we try to convince him to wear a cpap mask. We finally got him a sleep study and the results are severe sleep apnea. The bright side of this is that addressing this problem should help his ability to learn and overall health (not to mention a good night sleep for momma too!). We are really hoping this will bring his blood pressure down as it is one of his ongoing serious issues. He seems ok with the IDEA of wearing a mask - like a space man. Don't want to borrow trouble, but I'm afraid the reality is going to prove more difficult.
Cheryl,

So happy for the good news! Prayers work, especially when they come from children :)
The Depakote actually gave Jonathan twitching...It is so weird on how it affects others. Does Nathan feel yucky after Hemo? Jonathan has yet to feel this, as he has told me that he notices a big difference, especially after the weekend. I just see alot of other kiddo's not feeling well before, during and after dialysis.
Another question, Are you planning Home Hemo?
Glad to hear Nathan is doing better!

Thanks to all who were praying for Nathan, so far so good. His cough is lessened, hopefully by Monday he won't be back to square one. His dry weight was increased and that seemed to have really helped the sickness after dialysis. Tonight he's puffy but blood pressure is only 98/88-for him that is extremely wierd. Hope its not infection. Other than that the new seizure drug Depacote seems to have gotten rid of a lot of the involuntary jerking, so that's good too. thanks again. Cheryl

Did you know...

CFH (Serum Complement Factor H) is a regulatory protein. The secreted protein product of CFH consists of 20 repetitive units named "short consensus repeats" or SCRs (each approximately 60 amino acids). In patients with aHUS the last 5 "pearls" in the twenty pearl strand protein, SCR16 - SCR20, should bind to protect cells but do not- they are defective in one or more of the last 5 SCR locations. If they cannot bind or stick to the kidney to protect that tissue, the platelets clump into clots that affect the glomeruli of the kidney -potentially causing acute renal failure.

It is estimated that there are about 300 cases of aHUS in the U.S., and it is most common with young children. The condition is life threatening and either can be chronic or can recur at intervals.
